A Slipstream & Bootable CD Guide

Step 4 - Create a Bootable Windows XP CD:

Slipstreaming is just half the task, now we need to move the updated windows installation data in the C:\XP-CD directory to a CD and make it bootable, just like the original Windows XP CD. To do this you will need a couple tools, I used ISO Buster and Nero Burning ROM 6. You can use Nero 5.5 to make this CD, however some of the pages may look slightly different, just make sure you use the same settings!

Place your original Windows XP CD into the drive, and run ISO Buster. Select the Bootable CD folder on the left, two files should appear on the right. Right-click on the Microsoft Corporation.img file and choose Extract Microsoft Corporation.img, saving it to the hard drive. I chose to save the image file to my C:\XP-CD directory.

Once you have extracted the image, you can close ISO Buster and open up Nero. You want to make a new compilation using the CD-ROM (Boot) choice on the left menu (you might have to scroll down some). On the Boot tab, select Image file, and Browse to find the image that you saved from ISO Buster.

Under the Expert Settings choose No Emulation and Number of loaded sectors to 4. (If you don't then the CD will not boot!)

The ISO tab should already be configured correctly, however make sure that it matches up with the settings below.

The Label tab is where you configure the CD's volume label. Generally it is a good idea to keep the same name as your original XP CD. Depending on if your CD is a Retail or OEM, Professional or Home, it will have different names. Once you set the volume label, click New.
