Akasa PowerPlus 650W Power Supply

Company: Akasa
Product: AK-P650FF-BKUKV3
Date Reviewed: March 8, 2006

Packing, Accessories, Cable Configuration:

The 650W PowerPlus comes in a colorful box, listing all sorts of features and specifications on the back and sides in multiple languages. The wattage is clearly labeled on the front so there is no guesswork as to which model is inside.

Included with the power supply are some screws, power cord, and 4-pin to 3-pin adapter. Unfortunately there is no manual, however just about everything you need to know is on the box or the power supply itself. The cables all have black mesh sleeving to help keep things nice and tidy.

The main 24-pin ATX connector can detach the extra 4-pins for backwards capability with older 20-pin motherboards. Likewise, the 8-pin EPS connector can split in two and the first 4-pins become the better known ATX12V connector. There is another 4-pin connector that is labeled, "AGP for Super Micro" which is referring to a particular brand of server motherboards. Because this power supply has four 12V rails, each 12V wires are color coded so the user knows which rail is used on each connector.

Two 6-pin PCIe connectors are provided each on their own cable, and four SATA connectors on two separate cables. Lastly there are three cables with a total of nine 4-pin connectors and two floppy connectors. One of the 4-pin bundles has an "AUX" label, however I can not determine what exactly that is supposed to reference. The power goes to the same location on the PCB as the other 4-pin connectors.

All cables are approximately 22" from the PSU to the first connector, with additional connectors spaced out about 6". The total cable count is as follows:

  • One (1) 24-pin Main Power (20+4 style)
  • One (1) 8-pin EPS12V (4+4 style to allow for ATX12V)
  • Two (2) 6-pin PCI Express
  • One (1) 4-pin Super Micro AGP Power
  • Four (4) SATA
  • Two (2) Floppy
  • Nine (9) 4-pin Peripheral
