The SP-500 Power Supply:

Included with the TX1050B is Antec's SP-500 (Smart Power) 500W modular PSU. The power supply is a dual-fan design, working in a push-pull configuration. The fan on the inside (near the power connectors) is thermally controlled and comes on when the PSU is powered up. The fan on the outside (near the AC plug) only kicks in once a certain internal temperature is reached. The combination of speed control via thermal temp, and only having the 2nd fan come on under heavy loads keeps this PSU running extremely quiet.

Besides the main 24pin power and 4pin +12V connectors, four (4) modular plugs are provided to accommodate the assortment of power cables with various connectors.

The main 24pin connector is actually the 20+4pin design, with the extra 4pin able to be detached from the main plug for older motherboards. The main power cable, and all peripheral cables have sleeving, but the 4pin +12V connector does not. Six peripheral cables are provided to accommodate various connections: 2 x PCIe, 2 x SATA, 2 x 4pin, and a 4pin to floppy adapter. Here's the slightly confusing part, there are six (6) different cables that can be plugged into the PSU, however there are only four (4) power outlets provided. If you don't need to use the two 6pin PCIe connectors, then there is no issue. I think a better solution would have been to provide 5 plugs on the PSU, and wire both PCIe connectors on a single cable.

All cables have gold plated pins and are 19" from chassis to the first connector. The total connector count is as follows:

  • One (1) 20+4pin Main Power
  • One (1) 4pin ATX +12V
  • Two (2) 6pin PCI Express
  • Four (4) SATA
  • Six (6) 4pin Peripheral
  • Two (2) Floppy (connects to 4pin)
