Extreme Overclocking Testing Procedure:

For our testing procedure we take direct readings off the 20-pin ATX connector that connects to the motherboard. We find that using this method is the most accurate way to monitor the voltages coming directly off the power supply. For more information on why we test this way, please read this article. Two sets of readings are taken. One set is taken at idle, which which is simulated by letting the computer sit at the desktop while not running any applications. The other set of readings are taken at full load, which is simulated by running Folding @ Home. We monitor the voltages and check for fluctuations as well.

Test Results

  +3.3V +5V +12V

Idle:

3.42V 5.11V 12.15V

Load:

3.42V 5.12V 12.11V

I am really excited and impressed with the results of testing. I started a few months ago with a 520W Vantec Stealth, went to the Clever Power 500W I recently reviewed, and down to the 470W Enermax...and the Enermax blows both the others away. The rails on this PSU are slightly overvolted, just like us overclockers like to see. They remain extremely steady from idle to load. The 3V rail doesn't vary at all, and the 5V rail actually increases voltage a bit(+.002%). Only the 12V rail takes any kind of Voltage hit(-.003%), but it's only .04V and the voltage is still .11 above spec. at full load, so the .04V drop is really insignificant.

Also worth mentioning, this power supply sports a feature called "Active PFC" (power frequency correction) which for one eliminates the need for a 115V/220V switch on the back of the power supply (this unit does not have the switch). Also, it regulates the power delivery of the PSU based on the electrical input. This makes the supply more efficient and makes sure that the rails stay stable regardless of fluctuation in the input power.
