Testing and Results:

Test System

Motherboard: MSI K7D-L Master
CPU: 2x AMD Athlon XP 2100+
Memory: 2GB PC2100 ECC Registered DDR RAM
Video Card: GeForce2 MX
Hard Drives: Western Digital 120GB SE
Other: 4x Sunon 80mm Fans
Memorex 52x CD-ROM
64bit Intel Dual Port Gigabit NIC

For our testing procedure we take direct readings off the 20-pin ATX connector that goes to the motherboard. We find that using this method is the most accurate way to monitor the voltages coming directly off the power supply. For more information on why we test this way, please read this article. Two sets of readings are taken. One set is taken at idle, which we simulate by letting the computer sit at the desktop while not running any applications. The other set of readings are taken at full load, which is simulated by running Folding @ Home. We monitor the voltages and check for fluctuations as well.

Test Results

  +3.3V +5V +12V

Idle:

3.41V 5.07V 12.33V

Load:

3.41V 5.02V 12.36V

Results show this power supply to be within specified ranges and very solid voltage levels. Remember that this PSU has independent 12V rails, which can certainly aid in overall stability.

Conclusion:

The combination of features and solid power make the Enermax Noisetaker EG425P-VE 420W power supply an excellent choice for any PC enthusiast. The current price is around $85 USD at online retailers, which is well worth the money for all the features.

Separate 12V rails ensure stable and clean current to the MB/CPU and other devices. ATX 12V v1.3 compatibility ensures that this power supply can meet the current demands of today's high-end processors. The smart fans help minimize noise, and after the PC shuts down they continue to run to cool off the components for longer life time.

Enermax has excellent documentation and support on their website, so if there is ever any questions or problems help is just a click away.
