Exterior of the Anubis:

The exterior of the Anubis is almost all aluminum. It is a thick aluminum alloy and very sturdy. The Anubis is rated to be able to stand up to 100kg ~220lbs. I did not try this, but I think it’s a pretty tough case. The left side of the case has a see through side panel. It is mesh with acrylic behind it, so do not expect airflow through it, but you can definitely see into your case with it. The side panel is removed with two latches on the top and the door swings out from top to bottom. The side panel on the other side is just aluminum and has the same design with the latches.

The power and reset buttons, for the case, are located on top. There are also three audio jacks and two USB ports. I was disappointed not to see eSATA or Firewire included on the top. The LEDs for power and HDD glow a nice UV color. They are not too bright where you can’t look at them, but they are not too dim either. The top of the case has one inch aluminum fins to help dissipate the heat. The included brush comes in handy when dust gets between the fins. There is also a 120mm fan for exhaust on the top w/a black metal mesh grating on top.

The front of the case has a metal door which is held closed by magnets on the top and bottom of the door. Unfortunately, these are very strong magnets, and it is very hard to open the door. I had to open it from the middle of the door and you could get it open a little bit easier. I may get out the dremel and cut a dip into the side of the door so I can get a better grip on it. Opening the door reveals the top mounted 3.5 exposed drive bay and the five (5) remaining 5.25 bays. With the 3.5 bay being on top my media card reader’s cable could not reach the USB header on the motherboard. Most floppy cables, for those that still use floppies, should be able to reach if you route them down the side of the optical drives.
