OCZ GameXStream 700W Power Supply

The interior is the most surprising part of the power supply for me. Usually for large wattage power supplies you would find massive heatsinks and tons of components, but the GameXStream is a very simplified and clean design. The best I can tell is the aluminum block in the front seems to be some sort of heatsink/heatpipe, when the PSU is under a heavy load that spot gets quite hot if you feel from the exterior side. Before testing I was unsure if this PSU would really hold up to the load (but you can breathe a sigh of relief now as it came through with flying colors). This power supply proves that it is not the physical size of the components that matter, rather it's the quality of the components used that makes the difference.

It appears that all the rails have a sense wire that goes back to a vertically mounted PCB. This is probably to measure current and voltage levels, and will shutdown the PSU if an over-current or over-voltage event occurs. Clearly printed on the PCB is the four 12V rails, typically this is just split from a common 12V feed off the main transformer. By splitting the power it allows for proper over-current protection, and capacitors can be placed on each rail aiding in power stability.

Last but not least, printed on the PCB is the text, FSP700-80GLC. FSP stands for Fortron Source Power, a highly reputable PSU manufacturing company. You can actually look up that model power supply and it will point you to their website. Also pictured is a single potentiometer, *probably* for voltage adjustment, however I did not touch it so that can not be confirmed. Opening up a power supply will void the warranty and is dangerous, so don't do it.
