Test System

Motherboard: EPoX 4GEA+
CPU: P4 2.26B
Memory: 256MB Corsair XMS 3500 Platinum Series
Video Card: ATi Radeon 9700 Pro
Hard Drives: Western Digital 80GB SE
Cooling: Prometeia Cooling System

We tested this power supply using a Fluke Digital Multimeter. We took readings directly off the power supply’s 20-pin ATX connector. This ensures that the voltage readings are correct. Software reading can be very inaccurate and once the power has passed through the rest of the system, the rails might be different due to the way the rest of the components handle the power. In addition, in this review, we will not use Motherboard Monitor or any other software based program because we find that our testing procedure is much more efficient. We take two sets of reading, one at idle and one at load. We define idle as sitting at desktop with no applications running for 15 minutes. We simulate load by running Prime 95.

Note: These voltages are "straight out of the box", i.e. the pot was not adjusted at all.

Voltage Readings

  +3.3V +5V +12V
Multimeter Idle 3.35V 5.15V 11.99V
Multimeter Load 3.35V 5.15V 11.98V

From our testing this power supply performs well as usual. The results are consistent with what we have seen in the past from TTGI. The voltages are right on and there is almost no fluctuation in the rails when load was applied. The only fluctuation at all was the drop by .01V on the 12V line. After the drop, the rails never moved even at load. The LEDs are fairly bright but when the fans speeds are increased, the LED’s actually get brighter. I guess you could consider it a dimmer. The fans remained quiet during the testing procedure when kept at the auto setting.

Conclusion:

This power supply performs just as we expected it too since its not different from the regular 520ss with the exceptions of the LEDs and the quadruple fan setup. The power is very clean and there is little to no fluctuation at all. TTGI really does make some nice power supplies and for the price, they are very affordable and money well spent. Not everybody can afford a PC Power and Cooling power supply so TTGI makes the affordable one that performs right in the same ballpark. The features like the adjustable pot and fan speed controller make it a little more convenient for people who do not want a lot of noise and for the overclockers who want solid rails. This power supply also has a 18 month warranty from TTGI.

Special Thanks to TTGI for sending us the Quadruple Fan 520ss for us to review.
