First Impressions:

As we all know, heatsinks are a crucial part of today's computer systems. You have your stock coolers, medium end coolers, and your high end cooler's which are mainly used by overclockers. Of the high end coolers there are some brands that stick out in peoples minds. Alpha & GlobalWin & Thermaltake are the most widely known. GlobalWin has always been the old standby while Alpha has been the "higher end" of the three companies. Thermaltake's trademark design is the "ORB" with their Chrome Orb and Super Orb, but I try to stay away from them considering they tend to crush cpu cores because of the less than great clip design & high clamping pressure. With GlobalWin's release of the FOP32/38 for Socket A, along with the Alpha PAL6035 release for Socket A, competition has been tied neck and neck. While GlobalWin has stuck with the all aluminum heatsink, Alpha has inserted a copper base plate into there aluminum heatsink. There have also been many different fan choices to go along with the heatsinks. Globalwin's FOP32 uses a Y.S. Tech fan and the FOP38 uses the LOUD Delta fan. The Alpha is also available with these choices and more. In this review I will take a look at the Alpha PAL6035 with the Y.S. Tech & Delta Fan.

The Package:

The package received from CoolerGuys included the Alpha PAL6035 heatsink, Y.S. Tech fan, Chrome fan guard, and a tube of G-47 thermal compound. The chrome guard is a nice touch as many companies do not include this and you have to buy it separate. The thermal paste is of good quality and will work for most applications. But I and many other overclockers prefer the Arctic Silver compound also sold at CoolerGuys.
