CoolIT Domino A.L.C. (Advanced Liquid Cooling) for CPUs

Date: February 26, 2009
Product: Domino A.L.C.
Company: CoolIT Systems
Author: Patrick Rader

Examining the CoolIT Domino A.L.C.:

The CoolIT Domino A.L.C. is packaged in a sleek black box. It pictures the water cooling kit as well as the Intel and AMD logos. The back of the box shows the basic technical specifications. There is also an example picture of the CoolIT Domino mounted inside a chassis. Opening the box reveals a clear plastic clamshell blister pack with the device in it. The Domino ALC is also packed with foam on either side to ensure it makes it to you home safely. Also included is a well written manual, mounting screws, and mounting brackets for a variety of sockets.

The CoolIT Domino A.L.C. is compatible with every major socket including Intel’s new Core i7 socket 1366. It is also compatible with Intel’s socket 775, as well as AMD’s AM2+ socket. The device comes out of the box with the Intel hardware on it ready to go for the 1366 socket. Unfortunately the device had clearance issues with the EVGA X58 motherboard. This was due to its high MOSFET heatsink so we had to test it on a socket 775 board. Switching the mounting from socket 1366 to 775 was a breeze, just a matter of moving the screws to the inner holes closer to the CPU on the retention bracket.

The device itself is very compact. The front of the device has a LCD screen which shows the coolant temperature, the RPMs of the fan and pump, as well as the fan speed. The fan has three settings: Low, Performance, and High. This is changed by simply pressing a button on the side of the device near the LCD. The pump is very compact, and is basically silent. There is also a single fan radiator that is cooled by the 120mm fan all mounted to the device. Unfortunately, there is no way to change the fan. The tubing on the CoolIT Domino is very stiff to prevent any kinks, it’s also quite a bit thinner than traditional DIY water cooling tubing. The manual states it is this way so there is no fluid evaporation. The block has a nearly perfect mirror finish lap performed on it from the factory to ensure even cooling on the processor.
