Testing:

I opted to use OCZ’s Ultra 5 thermal paste on the stock AMD cooler the OCZ Gladiator 3 and the Cooltech Water system. The Athlon 1400TB processor chosen is known to run hotter than the newer XP models and would make for a good test-bed. Each cooling solution ran for 12hrs to burn in thermal paste evenly. Each cooling solution was run 3 times for 15 minutes of Prime 95 torture test and totals averaged. The room ambient room temperature was maintained at 24ºC for each test.

Video Card: NVIDIA 5200 Ultra
Power Supply: Antec Performance 350 Watt PSU
Hard Drive: Maxtor D740X 40GB
Operating System: Windows XP Pro SP1
Case Cooling: 1 x 80mm fan front w/air setup
1 x 60mm fan rear w/air setup
CPU Cooling: Retail AMD HSF
OCZ Gladiator 3
Cooltech Modula2 2F12F

 

Results:

After testing all three cooling solutions we can clearly see the Cooltech system provided better cooling over the air heatsinks under full load by 11ºC and 4ºC at idle. Note that the Cooltech was run with both the front and rear fans removed and provided more than adequate cooling. The 120mm fans were nearly silent and the pump was barely audible when compared to the air cooling solutions.
