TennMax Lasagna BGA Cooler:

Second Test:

The second test involved the northbridge chip on my BP6 motherboard. The BP6 being a dual processor board supposedly stresses the northbrige chip more thus generating a significant amount of heat. For this test I skipped using the thermal pad simply because I knew the results wouldn't be as good as using thermal compound, and also it is a pain to scrape off once it has bonded to the chip. If you are a true hardcore overclocker then you don't use a thermal pad unless there is just no other way for the situation.

BX Northbridge Chip:

Ambient Temp 80°F

OEM Green Heatsink - Full Load 106.3°F
OEM Green Heatsink - Idle 99.0°F

BGA w/Thermal Grease - Full Load 100.6°F
BGA w/Thermal Grease - Idle 93.7°F

Hell Yeah! That's almost a 6°F drop using that cooler! Please remember that I did have 2 case fans running during these tests, One was a 92mm and the other was an 80mm. I felt this is about on par with what a typical person uses. Of course with I fire up the pair of 120mm 130CFM fans, all the temps drop across the board, but that's another story! Anyways, like I was saying, the Lasagna BGA cooler did an awesome job of keeping our BX chip cool, I'm honestly leaving it on my BP6 just because it does keep it at such a low temp!

Unfortunately I don't have a different motherboard around that has mounting holes for the northbridge chip. When you jump from 133 to 160+ FSB I am told that the chip gets REALLY hot, and I bet these Lasagna BGA coolers are just what the doctor ordered to keep everything cool and stable.

On To Page 4 for the Final Conclusion
