Is Bigger Always Better?:
I received a new heat sink from VantecUSA,
called the FCE-6030D. The first thing I noticed was that is was much smaller
than their previous (and very popular) heat sink, the FCE-62540D. Second thing I
noticed was how dense the fins were, 32 to be exact. The older model, while
bigger, has only 20 fins. Both however include the ever so popular black-label
Delta fan (with a chrome finger guard), a 3-to-4 pin adapter, and a
small packet of thermal compound.
Personally, before testing, I didn't think this heat sink would perform well at
all, however in the end I was quite surprised. I decided to compare it to several other popular heat sinks to see
how it measured up.
The actual lineup of coolers is as follows:
-
Vantec FCE-6030D
-
Vantec FCE-62430D
-
GlobalWin WBK38
-
Thermosonic ThermoEngine
I'm not going to go into details about any heat sinks except for
the new FCE-6030D. If you want to read about the other heat sinks used in this
comparison (along with many others that weren't included), check out the first
heat sink comparison, or heat sink
roundup 2, or even the copper
heat sink comparison.
Vantec FCE-6030D:
Like I said before, this heat sink is much smaller than the
traditional monsters that we have seen unleashed on the market recently. However
a closer look reveals a sleek & efficient design, combining lots of surface
area with complete cooling over all the fins. Another wonderful feature is
Vantec's user-friendly clip design, you can put this heat sink on & take it
off without the need of any tools!
