Test Setup:

Test System

Motherboards:

ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe (875P)

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz "C" (800 MHz FSB)
Memory: 2 x 512MB Kingston PC4300
Video Card: ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Power Supply: Enermax 475W ATX
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar 120GB
Operating System: Windows XP Pro SP2

The temperatures that we took for the CPU were used with Motherboard Monitor (a popular hardware monitoring program), as it reads the temperature from the internal CPU diode, which is more accurate than any external thermistor could provide (since the core is covered with a heat spreader). The hard drive temperature was taken with an external thermistor mounted to the front of the drive. This should give us an accurate depiction of how well the WaterChill Antarctica cools of these components compared to traditional cooling.

  • We define the idle temperatures as running Windows with no other applications for 30 minutes.
  • CPU load temperatures were taken after having the system run two instances of Prime 95 for 30 minutes.
  • Hard Drive temperatures were taken after running the system for at least 30 minutes.

The CPU was tested at two speeds:

  • Stock: 3.2GHz (200FSB) @ 1.55v
  • Overclocked: 3.68GHz (230FSB) @ 1.6v

The ambient temperatures were kept as close to 26C as possible. We compared the CPU to a retail Intel heatsink, and the hard drive with no cooling.
