Testing & Benchmarks:

Our first set of tests was done at stock speeds using the SPD (serial presence detect) values. The modules are supposed run at 400 MHz so we figured 200 FSB with the memory in synchronous mode using the 6/6 memory ratio would be a good starting place. Running at this speed was very easy, no extra voltages were needed and the memory performed well. Next, we started raising the FSB by 5 MHz increments, still using the SPD values. At stock voltages, we were able to get the memory up to 420 MHz in a dual configuration. This is very nice considering we did not have to change the timings or increase the voltages.

Tests @ SPD Values:

  Sisoft Sandra PCMark 2002
333 2.6v 2,589 / 2,494 5,236
400 2.6v 3,095 / 2,919 5,912
410 2.6v 3,175 / 2,994 6,037
420 2.6v 3,257 / 3,073 6,120

After this speed, we could not get any higher using any other voltage. This is interesting considering we were still using stock when we made it to 420 MHz. Therefore, the only other thing we could do was change the memory timings. The timings were changed to 2-7-2-2, which is still aggressive. At these timings, we were ale to run the memory at 430 MHz using 2.8V. The voltage jump here was a little strange. The memory using the 2-7-2-2 timings would not run at 430 unless we used 2.8v. Staying with 2.8v the highest overclock we could achieve was 450 MHz. Any higher than this with any voltage or timings was not stable at all. This could be because our motherboard only goes to 225-228 FSB stable. The memory might be able to go a little faster but not by much. This is still an impressive overclock since it runs over PC3500 speeds in a dual memory setup. The performance gains are clear from our tests.

Tests @ 2-7-2-2 Values:

  Sisoft Sandra PCMark 2002
430 2.8v 3,324 / 3,101 6,135
440 2.8v 3,365 / 3,188 6,216
450 2.8v 3,439 / 3,211 6,341
