Testing On The Intel Platform (Cont):

After making sure the memory could run its rated speeds I decided to try to see just how far it could go. Well I made it all the way up to 460mhz using the SPD timings. I could run Sandra and it still showed CAS 2. These speeds were pretty amazing. The score was beating RD 1066. I tried other timings but the memory would not go any higher. I tried different voltages but after looking at my pc health stats in the bios I noticed that any voltage at 3V or over, I was only truly getting 2.94V. I think that this was an issue with the board. I believe that the RAM could have gone further if I had the voltages needed but I was at the mercy of my board.

460 MHz DDR (Max Speed):

After finding that max speed of the RAM at which I could bench SiSandra, I wanted to see what the max was for 3DMarks 2001 SE. I tried 460mhz but the ram just wouldn't do it. I lowered the FSB until I could run all the way though the benchmark. I could run it at 448mhz. This is not bad at all considering we are still CAS 2. I had another stick of GEIL memory here and I wanted to test to see the max speed of it as well. It's a 256MB module of PC3500 as well. I thought that this would be good to show consistency. Well, this particular module would run at 482mhz at SPD values!!! That is one of the highest DDR memory speeds I have ever seen.

482 MHz DDR (256MB Max Speed):

Oddly still this stick still was running CAS 2 and would but I'm not complaining. Obviously I was very excited about this and was happy to know that both sticks were very fast and good overclockers. Anyhow, back to running 3DMarks...

448 MHz DDR (Max Stable Speed For 3DMarks):

Overall I think that on my Intel Rig the GEIL memory did very well. I was able to get some nice speeds that were very stable. I wish I had a little more voltage though so I could have made sure that it was not an issue. Also the 256MB stick I think could have gone higher but the CPU was getting pretty hot because it was running at 2.88ghz. So if you have an Intel DDR machine, this is the memory for you. You are more likely to max out the CPU before the GEIL PC3500.
