The Rise of Athlon 64:

At the end of September, we saw the release of AMD's Athlon 64 desktop processor, codenamed ClawHammer. The reviews flooded in from many sites, and there was a light in favor of AMD. Unfortunately, we missed the initial launch of the processor; however, we do have some of the first boards out supporting the Socket 754 CPU. Today we have our first review of a mainboard featuring the VIA K8T800 chipset.

EPoX was founded in 1995 and is not a stranger to most enthusiasts. EPoX designs high quality mainboards and solutions for both Intel and AMD platforms. Overclockers love them because they provide BIOS options (mainly voltages) that go beyond most motherboard manufacturers and their boards in general overclock extremely well.

The 8HDA3+ is based on the K8T800 chipset, supporting Athlon Socket 754 processors. The new chipset is loaded with features and we will see how well EPoX has incorporated this chipset into their design and of course put the board to the test against our Intel 3.2C on 875/865 motherboards.
