The 755FXK8AA-8EKRS BIOS has some adjustments / tweaking options, though there are some missing features we would have liked to see. Being a relatively new motherboard there are still some BIOS issues to work, some problems we encounter now could potentially be fixed in the future. The Phoenix-Award BIOS for the most part is the regular setup.

The motherboard does have CPU voltage adjustment, and the bus speed allows for up to 350MHz in 1MHz increments. The downside is the CPU multiplier adjustment did not work for our processor so we were somewhat limited while overclocking. Also there is no DRAM voltage adjustment, so that can be another limiting factor when wanting to overclock or attempt tighter memory timings. Timings are fully adjustable, as well as various memory divisors.

Some of the Foxconn specific BIOS options are the SuperBoot, SuperBIOS-Protect, and SuperRecovery.

  • SuperBoot: SuperBoot allows system-relevant information to be stored in CMOS upon the first normal startup of your PC, and the relevant parameters will be restored to help the system start up more quickly on each subsequent startup.
  • SuperBIOS-Protect: SuperBIOS-Protect function protects your PC from being affected by viruses, e.g. CIH.
  • SuperRecovery: SuperRecovery provides the users with an excellent data protection and HDD recovery function.

Overclocking:

Overclocking was somewhat limited since the CPU multiplier adjustment did not function properly, and the lack of DRAM voltage adjustment. However, we were still able to max out our CPU at around 2.45GHz (245 FSB). One issue I noticed (as can be seen in the screen shot below) is the FSB seemed to be a few MHz behind the higher it was set. At default BIOS settings the actual speed is almost spot-on.

I did read in other reviews that there is an issue with the board's clock generator that prevent bus speeds above 233MHz from functioning. An updated revision of the board, with a new clock generator will be necessary to enable speeds above 233MHz. Whether our board is one of the newer revisions, or we just got lucky with overclocking has yet to be determined.
