BIOS Features:

Most of the BIOS is your standard Phoenix-Award setup. However Foxconn has made some customizations to provide overclocking and other tweaking enchantments. The "SuperBIOS" group of features includes the SuperBoot, SuperBIOS-Protect, SuperRecovery, and SuperSpeed features (more about these individual features can be read on the Foxconn website). The FSB speed can be increased up to 300MHz, in 1-2MHz intervals.

The Hypertransport bus multiplier can be changed, and is often lowered when overclocking. Hypertransport bus width (upstream & downstream) can also be set to either 8 or 16 bits. Memory timings are also fully adjustable, and we did not have any issues running at 2-2-2-5 1T timings.

There are several voltage adjustments available, however one thing I noticed was the memory voltage under-volted by 0.05V, and the CPU voltage over-volted by about 0.02V.

  • Chipset Vcore: Default, 1.60, 1.70, 1.80
  • Memory Vmem: 2.50, Default, 2.70, 2.80
  • Hypertransport Vdd: Default, 1.3V, 1.4V, 1.5V
  • CPU Voltage: Default, 1.200V - 1.800V in 0.025V increments

Of course there is also complete voltage and fan RPM monitoring, along with a safety shutdown temperature setting.

Overclocking:

The first thing I should mention is the lack of a multiplier adjustment in the BIOS, keep that in mind as you read on. Overclocking was somewhat of a mystery at first, when attempting to overclock via the BIOS I was only able to achieve about 220MHz FSB (roughly). Increasing voltages and adjusting other settings didn't help at all. I'm not sure what the cause is, however after reading a couple other reviews on this motherboard, it became clear that others were having the same issues.

Not giving up, I decided to use a nifty program called ClockGen (which I'm sure many enthusiasts are familiar with). This allowed me to do several things, first of which was lowering the CPU multiplier to 8x. Next, I started to increase the FSB (voltage adjustment is more than adequate in the BIOS) and managed a solid 280MHz. A far cry from the original 220MHz from the BIOS attempt.

I can only theorize that the BIOS needs a little work to overcome some minor issue preventing higher FSB speeds. Also adding in the ability to change the CPU multiplier would be a huge plus.
