GIGABYTE MA790XT-UD4P AM3 DDR3 Motherboard

Product Summary & Final Conclusions:

Overall I'm very pleased with GIGABYTE's MA790XT-UD4P motherboard, it offers an excellent set of features at an affordable price. There are no major issues with this board that I can think of that stand out in my mind. I know I didn't mention it much in this review, but this board is an excellent overclocker, and is usually my board of choice when doing AMD processor reviews.

I've always liked how GIGABYTE color-codes their motherboards, it not only looks cool, but it also helps when trying to explain something to a novice. I've also always liked how GIGABYTE organizes and groups their BIOS menus and options. Typically I like to do my initial overclocking with the AMD Overdrive utility, then afterwards I set the final settings in the BIOS to make it permanent. It is just as easy to overclock via the BIOS thanks to the screen showing all the final speeds and voltages in real-time as you adjust settings.

The benchmarks we ran were to show that nothing was inherently wrong with the board or chipset. However, they also showed that current owners of AM2+/DDR2 boards can get near equal performance using the same processor and video card. If purchasing a new system, then yes DDR3 is the way to go. However, if you have an older AM2+ system and there are BIOS updates to support the latest Phenom II & Athlon II processors, you might want to consider that route if you are on a budget.
