More Speed & More Affordable:
About five months ago AMD made a ground-breaking announcement with their first pair of Phenom II X6 hex-core desktop processors. Today AMD is releasing six new processors to add to their existing mix of Phenom II & Athlon II models. The most notable of these new processors is a mid-range hex-core, the Phenom II X6 1075T, priced almost in between the existing two X6 models. A new top-end quad-core, the Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition is also a welcome addition. AMD plans to continue the X4 965 as a Black Edition model too, however the X4 955 will probably be transitioned over to a regular locked-multiplier chip. Finally, with the release of the new Athlon II X4 645, this should bump the prices down on existing models, making the Athlon II X4 640 (3.0 GHz) the new $99 quad core deal. FYI, the cheapest quad-core Intel has is the Q8300 priced at $150.
In the tables below I have compiled the latest prices from a couple online stores of most (not all) current AMD models. As for the new models just being released, I used the price estimates from AMD. We *should* expect to see the existing models prices drop a little once they hit the retail channels. As one can see, the new processors are 100 MHz speed bumps over existing top models, except for the 1075T which is between the existing 1090T & 1055T.

As with previous Athlon II / Phenom II releases, a BIOS update is always recommended to ensure complete compatibility and functionality with existing AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 motherboards.
The processors we will be taking a look at in this review are the three new Phenom II models. Unfortunately due to time constraints it just wouldn't have been possible to benchmark the new Athlon II processors in time. However, feel free to refer to our previous reviews of Athlon II processors, it doesn't take much to figure out what an extra 100 MHz does in terms of performance.
