1GB & 2GB ATP Secure Digital SD Memory Card

Performance Summary & Final Conclusions:

The performance of the ATP SD cards is extremely impressive! My Sandisk Ultra II Compact Flash card is supposed to be rated for the same 60X speed, however both the synthetic & real word tests showed the Ultra II to be only about half the performance of the ATP cards. Both the 1GB & 2GB ATP SD cards performed with near-identical benchmark results, showing the consistency in the product line. The regular Lexar SD card just didn't stand a chance, especially when it came to write performance (which to me is the most critical).

These new large capacity SD cards really expand the potential for devices such as MP3 players, pocket PCs and digital cameras. As we see all these portable devices shrinking in size, the once tiny Compact Flash card is now comparatively a dinosaur and just doesn't always fit what the designers are trying to accomplish. The small physical size of a SD card gives it greater potential to be integrated in these portable devices, also the lower power consumption helps extend battery life (always important).

I have to be honest, I was a little (very) worried about dropping a perfectly fine 2GB SD card into a glass of water. However, the card definitely held up to its claim of being rugged. While other manufacturers might have special lines for these types of "extra durable" cards, this is a feature that is designed into ATP's regular line of SD & MMC cards. Also worth noting is that all of ATP's flash memory cards have a 5 year warranty, so if you have any problems ATP's got you covered.
