Using The Hardware Lock:

The 6 buttons on the Flash Padlock are raised and have a good feel when pressed, giving a mild “clicking” sound, which allows you to know that the buttons have indeed been pressed. The number buttons are large enough and spaced far enough apart to mostly eliminate pressing multiple buttons simultaneously. If you have kielbasa-like fingers you might have some problems.

Setting the PIN is a fairly straight forward process. I won’t go in to a great deal of detail, but here is the gist of it:

  • Press and hold the “key” button
  • Green LED (unlock) LED starts blinking
  • Keep holding the “key” button until both Green and Red LEDs blink
  • Enter the PIN you would like to use (up to 10 digits)
  • Press the “key” button again
  • Both Green and Red LEDs will blink
  • Re-enter the PIN to confirm
  • Press and release the “key” button
  • Green LED will blink to indicate the PIN has been set

As you can see, the steps are fairly easy. A full set of instructions is included that detail how to set the PIN, unlock the Flash Padlock, change the PIN, lock and Flash Padlock and how to set the Flash Padlock as “always unlocked”.

Now, as should be a concern for everyone, what if you lose or forget your PIN? Corsair has come up with a solution for that as well by offering an online PIN registration via their website. All that is required is your email address, choosing a password, PIN description and entering in the PIN and registering. Once registered you are shown an image with the PIN description and PIN. Once the registration is complete, you will receive an email with your password, PIN description and PIN.
