Benchmarks:

Performance is going to be limited to the 480Mb transfer speed of the USB 2.0 interface. I ran a couple Sandra 2007 benchmarks, one was the Removable Storage benchmark, while the other was the Physical Disks benchmark. The numbers are pretty typical for an external hard drive and inline with the other scores shown.

 

Performance Summary & Final Conclusions:

Overall I'm quite pleased with the performance and versatility of the Enermax Laureate enclosure. Providing an interface for both PATA or SATA hard drives allows for just about any model and capacity drive available on the market. The passive cooling design of the enclosure is quite effective, and with no fan there is no additional noise. The provided USB cable is extra long to accommodate rear-USB ports or other situations where the hard drive can not be placed near the PC.

Installing a hard drive in the enclosure is only a few easy steps. It took me maybe 5-10 minutes from opening the box to up and running on the PC. Windows XP detected the drive with no problems and no additional drivers required.
