Rosewill RX81-MP-SC External 3.5" SATA Enclosure

Product Summary & Final Conclusions:

I'll be honest, I was a little hesitant at first before receiving this enclosure as I have never used a Rosewill product before. They aren't what you would call one of the "big guys" that have been around for decades. But after using this enclosure for a while I can say that I'm extremely pleased with its performance and Rosewill's quality. I haven't had a single issue using the drive between all my computers at work & home, and while operating the aluminum chassis seems to dissipate the heat quite nicely, even for a 1TB 7200RPM hard drive.

The price for the Rosewill RX81-MP-SC may seem a little on the high-side to some, but after comparing the construction and features of some competitor products, I think the additional price can be justified. If you have to question the enclosure your hard drive is in, how safe do you think the data is? There's no cables to fight with internally, everything mounts with ease and as expected, and the enclosure itself feels as solid as it looks. Also it is one of the few enclosures that offer such a wide variety of data connections, no doubt to please both the PC and Mac groups. If you do not need the FireWire 400 / 800 connections then you can get the other model which is about half the cost, and it still features the two most popular connections, USB 2.0 & eSATA. Each model is available in silver or black, whichever your preference may be.

I would not hesitate at all to recommend this line of Rosewill enclosures. It hands down beats every enclosure I've previously owned in style, robustness, and features. Really the only downside and turnoff for some, is the price.

UPDATE: I got a response from Rosewill about the price. Essentially this model is priced as it is because of the chipset / FireWire 800 feature (which is understandable). Like I said before, if you do not plan on using the FireWire feature, there is another model with only USB 2.0 & eSATA (the two most popular interfaces for a PC anyhow) which is about half the cost.
