A first look at the enclosure:

The enclosure arrived in a sturdy retail box with a nifty plastic handle on top. The box clearly displays which DS3 model is enclosed and gives a list of features and specs.

Inside I found the enclosure, a power adapter, 4 attachment screws, a user guide, a driver installation guide for Win98SE, and a driver CD. At first glance the enclosure looks really nice. I love the black finish and the Venus logo behind the translucent plastic front end.

The enclosure has a black aluminum body, with smoked plastic end caps. They seem like they would be easy to break or crack if they underwent an impact, but then again so does every other bit of hardware on my desk. A lot of people prefer heavy rubber end caps on hard drive enclosures, but they don't have as attractive an appearance as this setup. There are 4 rubber pads on the bottom of the enclosure for stability, but missing are the side-mounted rubber pads I would expect to see. Without those, the enclosure slides around and is less stable when perched on it's side.
